History of Varna Airport

The first two sheds for Bulgaria's first hydro-port were constructed in the Peinerdzhik region in 1916 when the Airport's history began. Between 1919 and 1920, there was sporadic mail-plane service between Sofia and Varna; however, a regular airline connecting the two cities didn't start operating until 1947. As a result, a decision was made in 1946 to build a new airport several kilometers west of the town, and locals enthusiastically assisted the builders there.
