From Varna: Rock Sanctuaries Hiking Tour

The Shumen Plateau has many wonders and secrets to uncover. Some of them will be opened and enjoyed that very same day. The monks who live in the area's rock monasteries have a lot of secrets. The actual origination date of these monasteries has yet to be discovered.

The few remaining frescoes attest to their status as the 13th- and 14th-century spiritual epicenters of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom. You've come to the correct place if you're looking for natural beauty and historical sites.

At 9:00 a.m., you will depart from Varna and head toward Shumen, particularly Osmar. We expect to get there around 10 o'clock, and then we'll explore. At the outskirts of the settlement, we'll take a gravel road. You'll be in Kostadinov in less than half an hour. After that, you will visit the Eye, natural phenomena, and Bulgaria's fourth most powerful energy center (after Rupee, Tsarichina, and Madara).

The Direclia follows immediately after. This monastery is a short distance from the main path, so we must retrace our steps from the Kostadin Monastery to get here. You must go a long way to the monastic quarters here to get somewhere. A route through the woods will lead you to Momina Skala. It's a simple and enjoyable walk there. When ready, you'll continue through the woods to the Cell, one of the area's most magical monasteries. A wooden ladder is installed at the site's entrance and must be climbed.

Finally, for dessert, there is the mysterious and mystical Khankrumovsky monastery. Now that we've seen everything there is to see, we can take a break, take some pictures, and meditate in front of all these stunning sights.

You relax, drink water, and then return to the town where we left the cars. We'll be taking a rural route that drops us down near Troitsa. About three kilometers of road separate that point from the village of Osmar, where we had parked.
