Varna Airport Train Transfers
Only 9 kilometers separate the airport and Varna Train Station, the city's central train station. You will reach your destination once you board the designated train at the station.
Online or in-person purchases of train tickets are both available. Purchasing tickets on the day of the trip is simple, but it may be more expensive than doing so when buying a train ticket.
Passengers at Varna Airport can take a bus or taxi or rent a car to get to the city's central train station.
Varna Train Station
One of Bulgaria's oldest railroad stations is Varna Train Station. Although Varna had had a train station since 26 October 1866, when the Rousse-Varna railway line was opened, the current structure was built between 1908 and 1925. It was officially inaugurated by Tsar Boris III.
The station building was designed in the Art Nouveau style with Neo-Baroque elements and constructed over several phases by architects Nikola Kostov and Kiril Marichkov. Both the interior and exterior ornaments were designed by Italian architects. The architecture at Burgas Central Railway Station was essentially the same. In 1929, a specially imported clockwork from Germany was installed in the station's clock tower.
Additionally, the square in front of the station was gradually grown. One of the stations where the Orient Express used to stop between 1883 and 1885 was the Varna railway station. It is a significant railway intersection today, with three lines to Sofia and separate lines to Karnobat, Rousse, Plovdiv, Pleven, Shumen, Dobrich, etc.
The city center and cruise terminal are close to the central train station. Bus and taxi connections to the airport, bus terminals, and resorts exist. There are daily services from Sofia, Plovdiv, and Rousse.
One direct international train runs continuously. Every day, the night train No. 059 leaves Kyiv; the trip takes just under 35 hours. This train stops in Lviv in 25 hours and Bucharest in 8 hours en route to Varna. There are many more places to visit in the summer. The cities with direct connections change yearly, but you can expect Prague and Warsaw, as well as Moscow, Saint Petersburg, and Minsk from the east, to be on the list.
